Rebirth of a classic
Kiwi yard IMG has restored the vintage sailing yacht Giriz II to her former glory

Integrated Marine Group (IMG) has proved that size and age are no barrier to a good refit with the completion of their two most recent projects.
The New Zealand yard has completed a major refurbishment of the 27-metre SY Giriz II - built in 1964 and with a guest log of Hollywood legends including Frank Sinatra, Kirk Douglas and Rex Harrison - and swiftly followed that up with a refreshment job on the modern 60-metre power yacht Elandess.
Elandess undergoing a refresh at IMG's yard“An added sense of purpose surfaces from our team when we work on older vessels,” said IMG Managing Director, Mark Wightman of the Giriz II refit. “They take real pride in restoring and preserving the unique character of these rare gems. When you reveal the end result it serves to remind us all why we chose this field of work.

“She emerged after two months with a new paint job to the hull, decks and rigs, interior improvements, new electronics and many other improvements, but retaining the same charm that wooed the stars in the 1960s.” At the other end of the spectrum MY Elandess, built in 2009, required a very different skill set when she underwent some fine tuning from the IMG trade team during her recent stay in New Zealand. During their time at the shipyard, the captain and crew celebrated their first anniversary since leaving Europe on a world circumnavigation.
