As we go to print, we’ve just wrapped up an exhilarating weekend of SailGP racing on Sydney Harbour – our congratulations go to Tom Slingsby and the Australian SailGP Team!

The past two months have been a whirlwind of travel, events and catch-ups, leaving me with unforgettable experiences to share.

In January, I traded my swimsuit and flip-flops for winter coats, scarves and snow boots as I embarked on a memorable stay at The Goring Hotel in London. If you find yourself in the UK capital, be sure to indulge in their delightful afternoon teas or unwind with cocktails in their lounge after 5 pm – it’s an experience not to be missed, especially after a long flight!

Following my London escapade, I ventured across to the renowned boot Düsseldorf. Despite hearing rave reviews for years, I’d never had the opportunity to attend until now – or, truth be told, the desire to cut my annual summer holiday back in New Zealand short! But I must say, it exceeded all my expectations and was well worth braving the cold for.

There’s nothing quite like being there to appreciate the scope of the world’s leading boat trade fair, and I wholeheartedly encourage industry professionals and boat enthusiasts alike to consider making the trip. Spanning 17 massive halls that showcased everything from kite surfing to 95-foot motor yachts, the event was a spectacle of magnificence. The well-organised layout made navigation a breeze, and allowed me to fully explore a plethora of brands, many of which were new to me.

Among the highlights of boot 2024 I enjoyed were the engaging discussions and meetings, in particular the inspiring story of ECOP Africa, the deserving winners of the 2024 Ocean Tribute Award. This alliance of African nations was honoured at the show for their commitment to marine conservation and their focus on combating illegal fishing, promoting sustainable practices and implementing poverty-alleviating programs. Stay tuned for an exclusive interview with ECOP Africa in our next issue, #113.

Our cover star this edition is the stunning B.NOW 50-metre Oasis Deck from Benetti. Owned by an Australian family with extensive yachting experience, Alunya is reinterpreting life at sea, and offers the perfect platform for long Mediterranean cruises with extended family. What could be better?

In other reviews, we feature Gulf Craft’s new Majesty 111, which caters to Australian owners who appreciate both volume and charter potential. The Palm Beach 42 motor yacht exudes elegance but, as we discovered, its seaworthiness shines brightest when faced with challenging weather conditions. And let’s not forget the Tesoro T40 – freshly arrived in Australia, the T40 excels at versatility, either as a superyacht tender or a high-speed dayboat for harbour exploration.

In this issue’s Ocean Charters profile, we showcase the exquisite AIX, a 44.5-metre Sanlorenzo available for charter in Australia that will soon be heading to Fiji for the winter season.

Having experienced the unparalleled service and comfort for myself – flick back to issue #109 for our sumptuous day in the Whitsundays for our Chefs on Board feature – I anticipate a busy and fulfilling season ahead for this superlative superyacht, which boasts owners keen to share her joie de vivre that was inspired by Aix en Provence in the South of France.

Finally, as we go to print, we’ve just wrapped up an exhilarating weekend of SailGP racing on Sydney Harbour. Congratulations to Tom Slingsby and the Australia SailGP Team for clinching their first win of Season 4. Be sure to check out Scene this issue, featuring highlights from the Ocean Club Owners’ Soirée, another magnificent celebration attended by owners, VIPs and our esteemed sponsors.
